Contraction Timer
Time every contraction precisely with one big button — start and stop. We track duration, interval and pattern for you, and flag when labour likely moves from early to active. Keep your phone nearby; you can share the log with your midwife in one tap.

Not enough data
Need at least 3 contractions to show a pattern.
Your data stays in your browser. Sakina does not store any inputs.
How to time contractions
A contraction is measured two ways: duration (from start to end of the tightening) and interval (from the start of one contraction to the start of the next). Both tighten and shorten as labour progresses.
The 5-1-1 and 4-1-1 rules
- 5-1-1: contractions 5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute, for 1 hour — most first-time mothers are told to call the maternity unit.
- 4-1-1: contractions 4 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute, for 1 hour — time to head to hospital for most low-risk labours.
Braxton Hicks vs true contractions
Braxton Hicks are irregular, usually painless, and stop if you change position or hydrate. True contractions get longer, stronger and closer together over time, regardless of movement.
When to go straight to hospital
- Waters break — note the time and colour (clear/pink is normal; green may indicate meconium).
- Bleeding heavier than a period.
- Reduced baby movements.
- Severe headache, vision changes, or sudden swelling.
Frequently asked questions
Do I time from the start of one contraction to the end of the next?
No — time from the start of one to the start of the next (that is the interval). Duration is how long the contraction itself lasts.
When should I call my midwife?
Most units ask you to call when contractions are 3–4 minutes apart, each lasting 45–60 seconds, for at least an hour — or sooner if your waters break or you are unsure.
Can I use this tool without data?
Yes. Once the page has loaded it stays functional offline — the timer is entirely local.
Is this a medical device?
No. This is a convenience timer only. Always contact your midwife or maternity unit with any concerns.
Will my contraction log be saved?
The log is stored in your browser’s localStorage. Nothing is sent to Sakina unless you explicitly share it.
